we will travel through abandoned canal systems and over open water, visit several of the remote hardwood hammock islands, one with an old hunting lodge that is now over 60 years old and has been used as backdrop for many movies and scenes from miami vice and csi miami. from there, you can discover the everglades far from any human habitat, either in the direction of the keys or across toward naples. on the way back, we will cross the territories of several alligators, who will come close to make sure that we won't outstay our welcome.

• the islands are home to mosquitoes, which will easily penetrate clinging clothing. spray yourself liberally before you go out and wear loose clothing. wear footwear that will alow you sure footing on a boat.
