We will visit a hardwood hammock island with an old hunting lodge that is now over 60 years old and has been used as backdrop for many movies and scenes from Miami Vice and CSI Miami. Islands like this are a refuge for birds of prey, raccoons, turtles and other wildlife that find nesting places here. On the way back, we will cross the territories of several alligators, who will come close to make sure that we won't outstay our welcome.

• Head, neck and shoulders should be protected from the sun during the ride in the open. The cool wind is deceiving! Sunstroke and sunburn happen fast.
• The islands are home to mosquitoes, which will easily penetrate clinging clothing. Spray yourself liberally before you go out and wear loose clothing. Wear footwear that will alow you sure footing on a boat.
